For everyone excited about Ubisoft's multiplayer ship combat title Skull & Bones, those who want to try it out early can now sign up for an insider program. Ubisoft will then pick “carefully selected players” who will be allowed to test the game out in order to provide developers with feedback to work on any aspects that need improvements.
If you’d like to sign up, you can find the application sheet on the official Skull & Bones website. Be aware that Ubisoft is apparently looking for someone with “a lot of patience and commitment,” so that implies that the build you might be playing might be a little rough. You’ll also need to adhere to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and wouldn’t be able to comment on the game’s progress outside the game itself.

The development of Skull & Bones has reportedly been a rollercoaster, although Ubisoft itself recently stated that development is going as planned and is “very happy” with the game’s progress. Back in 2020, Ubisoft’s creative director Elisabeth Pellen wrote that Skull & Bones had been steered in a “different direction”, and we’ve heard very little from Ubisoft about the game since.
More worryingly, a report from Kotaku last year suggested that Skull & Bones’ development has been so turbulent that phrases like “Do you play as a pirate or do you play as a boat?” were thrown around amongst management. Workplace issues have also been reported at Ubisoft Singapore, and Ubisoft is still being accused of not adequately addressing these issues. It’s very clear that development on Skull & Bones hasn’t been as smooth-sailing as Ubisoft would like us to believe.
