We've all been there — you're being trounced in a round of Chess, feeling frustrated, and want nothing more than to flip the table or swipe all your opponent's pieces off the board. One game that may offer some of this catharsis is Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate, which is making its way over to PS5 and PS4 on 24th August 2023.
The game is a turn-based, roguelike strategy game in which you play as the black king piece. He's missing his usual army, but instead has a shotgun. It's your job to outmanoeuvre the encroaching white pieces and blast them all to smithereens before they can capture you — but you can't move and shoot in the same turn. The trailer above gives you a good idea of the gameplay.
On top of the basic strategy, you unlock new perks as you progress through the levels, granting you all kinds of extra abilities. These can power up your shotgun, or allow you to move like a different piece to escape sticky situations. However, as your king levels up, so does the white king, who you need to defeat in each stage.
It looks like a great little game, and the reception on PC suggests as much too. With 93 per cent positive reviews on Steam, this is a cult hit indie title heading our way. Will you be playing Shotgun King? Make your move in the comments section below.

Looking good. We are one step closer to Tetris with shotguns.
I can’t tell if I’m really into this or not at all into this
