Japanese game development icon Shinji Mikami has left Tango Gameworks.
The news was first broken by True Achievements, which reported on an internal email sent to staff by parent company Bethesda's SVP of development Todd Vaughn.
"I am writing today to let you know that studio head Shinji Mikami has decided to leave Tango Gameworks in the coming months," he said.
"Mikami-san has been a creative leader and supportive mentor to young developers at Tango for 12 years through his work on the Evil Within franchise, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and of course, Hi-Fi Rush."
The news has since been confirmed publicly by Bethesda, which put out a post saying that Mikami would be leaving in the "coming months".
"We wish Mikami-san well in the future and are excited by what lies ahead for the talented developers at Tango," the company wrote.
Mikami founded Tango Gameworks back in 2010, with its first title – The Evil Within – coming out in 2014 before a sequel followed in 2017. The firm launched new IP Ghostwire: Tokyo in 2022, ahead of this year's Hi-Fi Rush.
His career at Tango followed a two-decade-long career at Capcom, where he worked on the Resident Evil franchise from the original to the fourth numbered iteration, as well as a brief stint at PlatinumGames.
