Workers at Sega of America have filed to form a union.
As reported by The Verge, staff at the company's Irvine, California office have submitted paperwork with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to create a new bargaining unit. The organisation – like all US video game unions so far – is affiliated with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and goes by the name Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega (AEGIS).
It is formed of 144 members of staff across a number of different departments – QA, localisation, live service, marketing and product development. So far, successfully-formed video game unions have mostly been formed by quality assurance departments, with the exception of the Tender Claws Human Union.
“Our workers and our audience deserve games made by people who make a living wage,” AEGIS' mission statement said.
“In our quest to reclaim our collective power, we have built bridges with fellow workers from across our company in an effort to understand our shared issues, and those that are unique to each department.”
We've reached out to Sega for comment.
