Sebastian Stan breaks down Ridley Scott's special approach to filming the dramatic sandstorm in The Martian. Stan was just one member of the incredibly stacked cast that populated Scott's 2015 sci-fi hit The Martian, which was in turn based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir. The Martian was a bona fide success upon its release, grossing an impressive $630.2 million worldwide and earning 7 Academy Award nominations. Stan played Watney's crewmate Chris Beck; the movie also starred Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Jeff Daniels, and Benedict Wong. On top of its gripping story, The Martian earned praise for its special effects and Scott's direction, making it his latest sci-fi success story after such classics like Alien and Blade Runner.
