Before the internet existed, "Let your fingers do the walking" was an advertising catchphrase that indicated one way to find information. You might not be browsing a physical phonebook these days, but your fingers are still on the move tapping out queries into search engines.
Fasthost checked some stats on Statista to see how far your fingers travel on mobile apps. On average, people scroll for 108 minutes a day. Take a look at your screen-time stats, and if that number matches yours, your digits would like some sympathy—they have traveled nearly a quarter of a mile in just one day. In a week, they will have reached 1.7 miles; in a month, 7.5 miles; and in a year, 88 miles.
Fasthost had some fun and calculated that your scrolling could take you around the Earth in 103,073.56 days (282.4 years). If you’re even more ambitious and want to get to the moon, that will be 988,683.13 days (2,708.72 years). What about Mars? Well, tell your thumb to buckle up without you, because that’s 578,703,703.70 days (1,585,489.6 years).
For something a little closer to home, you and your scrolling could conceivably travel all of Route 66 in about 27.8 years.
However far your fingers are traveling, remember that rest stops are essential. Taking a break and stretching each day will be good for all of you.
