Scrat finally gets the acorn in the final short from Blue Sky Studios. Scrat is the lovable and unlucky saber-toothed squirrel from the Ice Age franchise that has appeared throughout the series of films, as well as a number of his own shorts. Voiced by director Chris Wedge, Scrat has no dialogue, but is featured as a dedicated and anxious squirrel who is forever chasing the dream of capturing and safely hiding an acorn, for which he has become synonymous with. The long-running bit has seen the creature chase the acorn from land to sea to space throughout his run in the films, but never succeeding in either keeping or eating the prized nut.
Blue Sky Studios was formed in 1987 and acquired by 20th Century Fox, leading to a creative partnership that saw the production of 13 theatrical films and a host of specials and shorts. When Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019, it was expected that Blue Sky Studios would be folded into their animation wing, but the company instead decided to shut the doors for good, as it wasn't economically feasible. Blue Sky Studios was officially closed in February 2021, while still at work on a number of projects, including the feature animation adaptation of Nimona (which has since gone to Netflix) and a series of Scrat shorts, Ice Age: Scrat Tales.
