There's movement on the Matter front.
Samsung SmartThings on Wednesday announced a new early access program to start testing the first Matter-compatible products from several big name smart home brands, including Aeotec, Aqara, Eve Systems, Leedarson, Nanoleaf, Netatmo, Sengled, Wemo, WiZ, and Yale.
Backed by Amazon, Apple, Google, Samsung, and others, the upcoming Matter standard promises to simplify the smart home ecosystem by allowing devices from various brands to seamlessly communicate.
Samsung's new SmartThings Partner Early Access Program will enable participating brands to "test their devices and Matter interoperability with Hub-enabled devices and through the SmartThings app," the company said in a news release.
"We strongly believe that Matter will become the de facto standard in every smart home in the world," Samsung said. "This is why we have, and will continue to, invest heavily in Matter."
The news follows a minor setback for the standard. "To further improve code quality and stability and accommodate the breadth of Matter devices and platforms, we’re extending our testing and validation events," the CSA said at the time. "While this will have the effect of pushing the public launch of Matter 1.0 by a few months, we’ll be launching with a larger pipeline of Matter-enabled devices, and a robust supply chain of development platforms for more devices to come."
The CSA says it plans to distribute a "feature complete"
