Tata Safari EV? Yes, you read that right. And based on this photos of a Tata Safari wearing green number plates, it seems that Tata could be busy testing its electric versions of the Safari SUV. The Tata Safari has been around for a few years now in its latest avatar, and an EV variant could sit above the Nexon EV going down the line. Tata does not say anything regarding this but the image of this unique Safari speaks a lot.

Shared by Instagram user Autojournal India, the photo shows a dark blue Tata Safari wearing green registration plates. For those in the unknown, green registration plates are only given to electric vehicles in India by the RTO. Given that Tata only sells the Safari in diesel spec, it is possible for this to be a test mule, with an electric powertrain underneath.

A quick search carried on by Motorbeam suggests that this isn't a test mule by Tata. In fact, this Safari is a private owner vehicle, and is registered to be a BS6 XZA Plus model with the 2-litre diesel engine. However, the RTO registration puts it into the EV category, and there is proof of legit paperwork.

There are high chances that this Safari may have gone ahead with an EV conversion kit and thereby been awarded the green number plate. There are many aftermarket EV conversion solutions available and this Tata Safari could be one of them to go through it.

Currently, Tata Motors is the only Indian auto manufacturer with the most EV models in its portfolio. The Tata Nexon EV is currently its best-selling EV in the market, while the Tigor EV is more affordable one based on the sedan platform.
