Samsung's foldables and its Galaxy S flagships are simply cool but it is the more affordable Galaxy A series devices that drive Samsung's volume in the market. The Galaxy A53 5G from this year has been a popular choice for Samsung fans in the midrange segment, despite some of the shortcomings. One of them was its camera performance, which needed improvements at the time of its launch. Based on the fresh rumours now, Samsung is coming up with updates to the camera in its next Galaxy A54.
Based on a report from GalaxyClub, it is said that the Galaxy A54 in 2023 could use a new 50MP main camera sensor. No other details follow this, and Samsung is yet to comment on this front. A 50MP camera may not sound like much in 2023, given that lesser priced phones from Chinese companies now flaunt 108MP cameras. The Galaxy A53 5G from this year flaunts a 64MP main camera, which on paper seems better.
While the megapixel count seems lower than the current model's spec sheet, the new 50MP sensor could be of better quality. Many suggest that Samsung could use the same 50MP sensor as the one on the Galaxy S22. Or, it can use another high-end Samsung-made sensor with the same megapixel count.
What remains to be seen is whether Samsung changes anything with the design and the rest of the specs. The Galaxy A53 5G this year had almost the same design as its predecessor, and relied on a Samsung Exynos chipset. We reviewed the phone at HT Tech and were left disappointed with the sluggish performance as well as the average cameras. Plus, it wasn't as value-for-money at the price it sold – Chinese brands like iQOO, Vivo and Xiaomi offered much better phones at the same price.
