As the war in Ukraine continues, developer GSC Game World has altered the spelling of the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl. The studio, which is based in Ukraine, recently delayed the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2in response to the ongoing conflict, which has unsurprisingly affected many of the company's employees.
The games industry has joined countless others in standing with Ukraine against the Russian invasion. Several Eastern-European and Western developers and publishers have spoken out against the actions taken by the Russian government, with giants like Nintendo and Sony closing off sales and digital storefronts to Russia. While S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games coming out of Ukraine, it is far from the only one being developed there, as the country has a burgeoning and passionate games industry. Studios in the neighboring country of Poland have also been outspoken against the war, supporting Ukraine with open letters of condemnation against Russia and various fundraisers and donations. Despite the short-lived S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 NFT controversy, many gamers are waiting on the game with bated breath, so it is getting plenty of attention in Ukraine and beyond.

Development of the game is still paused, but a recent article from PC Gamer indicates that it is getting a subtle name change. The original subtitle Heart of Chernobyl is now Heart of Chornobyl. This change was not commented on by GSC Game World, but the previous title used the Russian spelling of Chernobyl, while the new title uses the Ukrainian spelling, so it seems clear that this has been done in protest of the Russian invasion.
