Warning! Spoilers ahead for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Following a brief yet significant duel with Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald is forced to flee Bhutan by the end of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, mysteriously disappearing after his plans to lead the Wizarding World fell apart. While this isn't the first time Grindelwald has managed to escape custody, it isn't clear where he's gone next.
In Fantastic Beasts 3, Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) attempts to get himself elected as Supreme Mugwump of the Wizarding World, believing in a magical revolution, considering those with pure magical blood to be superior. Wanting a war with the non-magical world, Grindelwald already had a significant following of supporters, one he wished to bolster by capturing, killing, and bewitching a rare and powerful creature known as a Qilin. Known for their ability to look into a wizard's soul and see if they are pure of heart, the creature bowing before the dark wizard would have secured Gellert's major seat of power. However, the efforts of Dumbledore (Jude Law) and his allies thwarted those plans.

Producing a genuine Qilin and the breaking of Dumbledore and Grindelwald's blood pact they'd formed in their youth when they were still united and in love, Gellert's plans were ruined. When his magical duel with Dumbledore ends in a stalemate, Grindelwald tells Albus he was never his enemy before jumping off a ledge and disappearing. The most likely location Grindelwald would have gone in the aftermath of Fantastic Beasts 3 would be Nurmengard, his fortress in the Austrian Alps.
