The Russo brothers' new movie, The Gray Man, features an ensemble cast full of big names, but the directing duo reveals why cast size doesn't scare them after making Avengers: Endgame. Although at this point Joe and Anthony Russo are best known for their high-budget action films, the Russos' career began with comedies. After their student film was noticed at a festival, Steven Soderbergh offered to produce their next film, a crime comedy. That film led to the pair working in television where they directed episodes for Lucky, the critically-acclaimed Arrested Development, the cult sitcom Community, and ABC's Happy Endings. Then with only three movies under their belts, Marvel hired the Russo brothers to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The Russos are definitely best known for their work in the MCU. After CA:TWS, the directing team went on to direct the two biggest projects yet in the MCU, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Infinity War and Endgame brought to a close the Infinity Saga and the MCU's Phase 3, and they featured almost every major MCU character who had appeared since the franchise's start in 2008. Despite the large scale of the films, the Russo brothers delivered, and Endgame and Infinity War each became one of the highest-grossing films ever made. After this success, the Russos went on to direct and produce several films, including the Netflix spy thriller, The Gray Man, which stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas.
