Enough about the PS5 Pro has leaked now for us to know it’s coming. Of course, the current Sony climate means it won’t tell us about the system until the last possible second – probably unexpectedly, in the most matter-of-fact way possible, during a random Tuesday lunchtime. Anyway, it sounds like developers are expecting it to be unveiled imminently, and as we’ve been reiterating for a little while now: the platform holder didn’t suddenly decide to return to Tokyo Game Show this year on a whim.
Here’s the rumour, then: Italian outlet Multiplayer said on a Twitch stream that it was told directly by a studio at Gamescom this week that the console is coming soon. That story was supported by WCCF Tech, which reports an unnamed team told it that it’s received specs for the supercharged system and that it will run Unreal Engine 5 much better than the current PS5 console. That’s big news, seeing as a lot of titles are starting to adopt the new engine.

WCCF Tech adds that the studio it spoke to was “not a big one”, so it’s surmising from this scenario that a lot of developers currently have access to the PS5 Pro, and not just major first-party teams like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch.
Of course, none of this is particularly surprising: we’ve been hearing about the upgraded system for over a year now, and despite the lack of confirmation from Sony, it’s expected to be released before Christmas. It’s probably worth mentioning that the PS4 Pro was unveiled on 7th September, ahead of a 10th November launch date. If Sony’s new console follows a similar trajectory, then we should hear official confirmation within the next couple of weeks.
