RS34 has announced “The Clean Rooms Project,” a new initiative to bring back its 2006-released arcade vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up game Karous with ports for Switch and PC (Steam), as well as a brand-new sequel, Karous 2: The Diffused Sanguis, for unannounced platforms.
The Tokyo-based developer will open a Campfire crowdfunding campaign for the Karasu ports on November 11 at 21:00 JST. It will seek 2.5 million yen (approx. $16,464 USD) to fund the Switch port, which is targeting a September 2025 release in Japan, with a stretch goal of three million yen (approx. $19,760 USD) to fund the PC port, which is targeting a November 2025 release. There will also be stretch goals for a physical edition for Switch at five million yen (approx. $32,938 USD), and PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 ports at six million yen (approx. $39,518 USD).
Karous first launched for arcades on November 15, 2006 in Japan. Ports were released for Dreamcast on March 8, 2007, Wii on April 10, 2008, and Xbox 360 via Sakura Flamingo Archives on November 27, 2014. A separate entry, Karous The Beast Of Re:Eden, was also released for 3DS on January 23, 2014. The game is notable for its various distinctive elements, such as black-and-white graphics, drum and bass-based music, a growth system, and friendly difficulty for shoot ’em up beginners.
