Andrew Lincoln's fan-favorite sheriff, Rick Grimes, trends on Twitter ahead of The Walking Dead's final Comic-Con panel. First airing in 2010, AMC's zombie drama quickly became a hit, introducing audiences to the post-apocalyptic world first seen in Robert Kirkman's comic book of the same name. Rick acts as the viewers' introduction to the world of The Walking Dead, waking up from a coma and then setting off to find his family. Although he remained a beloved character on the show throughout its run, Rick departed The Walking Dead in season 9 in 2018 and has yet to reappear.
Not long after Rick was whisked away in a helicopter after his apparent death, it was announced that the character would get his own trilogy of solo movies. News of the Rick spinoff films has been hard to come by since the initial announcement and short teaser trailer shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but producer Scott M. Gimple confirmed in 2020 that pre-production on the films was still underway. With The Walking Dead set to air its final episodes later this year, fans are gearing up for the show's last panel at SDCC later this week, but the Rick solo movies still remain a major question mark.
