Rick and Morty are coming back a full year after the show went on an intergalactic vacation that unravelled the series’ universe, as Adult Swim announced the family duo will be coming back this September 4 in its accustomed time slot.
Season five proved to be a defining chapter for Rick and Morty, as the finale suggested the show's future could feature some linear story elements that were previously all but absent from it. That theory could find some backing in the words of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network president Michael Ouweleen who referred to this new chapter as a “soon-to-be iconic season” that “will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun,” perhaps suggesting Rick and Morty is about to change in more ways than one.

The highly anticipated announcement came accompanied by a corresponding tweet on Adult Swim and the series’ official Twitter account. The post showed Rick and Morty sporting enviable 6-pack abs, likely the fabrication of one of Rick’s experiments instead of gym time or a diet from the two. Although no direct confirmation was given regarding the number of episodes, all odds point to season six following the long-established tradition of ten episodes per season, with the sole exception being the first one due to the pilot’s inclusion.
Rick and Morty return to the 11 p.m. ET late-night slot they've made their own on Adult Swim for a while now.
