Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, has apparently started work on a brand-new game. The roguelike third-person shooter, which released on PlayStation 5 last year, sees players stuck in a time loop on a hostile alien world. PlayStation acquired Returnal studio Housemarque back in June 2021, making the ambitious developer a member of the PlayStation Studios family alongside other esteemed creators like Insomniac and Naughty Dog.
Starring planetary explorer Selene Vassos, Returnal takes players on a brutal and emotional journey across the planet Atropos. Combining elements of the roguelike genre with third-person shooter combat and psychological horror, the game pits players against an entire planet of hostile alien monsters. As players gradually explore Atrophos they are confronted with memories from Selene's past, slowly unraveling Returnal's emotional and mysterious storyline. The game was praised upon release for its new-generation graphics and compelling narrative, and after launch Housemarque updated Returnal with run suspension and photo mode among other highly-requested features.

Housemarque game director Harry Krueger also confirms that the new game will be a single-player experience, like Returnal before it, rather than a multiplayer or live service
