Metroid Prime 4 was announced for the Nintendo Switch in June 2017 and fans of the franchise have been waiting for more news on the project ever since. Initially confirmed to be developed by Bandai Namco in partnership with Nintendo, the first-person adventure game was then revealed to have been rebooted with Nintendo's own Retro Studios handling the sequel. Retro, while largely running silent since, has now offered up a hint regarding the every-mysterious status of its new Metroid Prime game.
It's not a major reveal or announcement, by any means, but Retro Studios did make a recent Metroid-related change to its Twitter profile recently that has fans talking. The official Retro Twitter profile has, for years, featured a very straightforward banner. It was the Retro Studios logo with a black background. That's now changed, however, with the banner now featuring a dark, alien-esque room or hallway with what appears to be Samus standing at its center.

To start, it's important not to read too much into the situation. Retro Studios is already known to be working on the new Metroid Prime game for the Nintendo Switch. It's potentially only over two years into development, which means there could be a significant amount of time yet before Retro is ready to share more about it.
