Many a Resident Evil fan has expressed disappointment at the Capcom countdown ending in a Street Fighter 6 reveal. Capcom launched a countdown timer last week that was scheduled to end on February 20 at 10:00 PM PT. It didn't take long for Street Fighter fans to conclude that a new game reveal would go live once the clock struck zero, especially since the finals for the Street Fighter Tournaments took place on February 20.
Other Capcom faithful thought differently, though, hoping that a Resident Evil announcement of some kind would take center stage instead. After all, Resident Evil Village players continue to await the previously promised story expansion that Capcom teased during its E3 2021 presentation. Leaked details that spewed from a ransomware attack on the publisher in November 2020 indicate several other Resident Evil titles are in development as well, meaning new game reveals could go live sooner rather than later. To the chagrin of some, however, Capcom itself is not yet ready to play its hand in the survival horror department.

After Capcom's countdown timer fully wound down to reveal a Street Figher 6 teaser trailer, fan account Resident Evil Central noted expressed disappointment but acknowledged that Street Fighter news did indeed constitute the "most likely scenario." Other fans like Twitter user Joshua Yetter weren't so gracious in letting their displeasure be known. Meanwhile, content creator Andi Hamilton noted upset Resident Evil faithful worked themselves up while knowing that Street Fighter's tournament offered the biggest hint about a potential fighting game announcement.
