With Capcom revealing a lot of Resident Evil-related news during its most recent conference, there's a lot for survival horror fans to be excited about. This list now includes the next-gen launch of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7, which arrived sooner than most would have expected.
The Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, as well as Resident Evil 7, all use the new RE Engine, capable of bringing some impressive visuals to life. However, with the next-gen technology now available through the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, it was time for an overhaul to make full use of those systems' abilities.

While most players' attention may have been focused on the sneak peek at the Resident Evil 4 remake and RE:Verse today, Capcom also had a secret reveal to make. The Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, as well as Resident Evil 7, are now available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with system improvements made to each. Both system upgrades add ray-tracing and improved frame rates to the titles, while the PS5 adds 3D audio and DualSense support. The upgrade is free for those who own the original versions on the last-gen systems, providing they upgraded from the PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S, respectively.
This is the best opportunity yet for players who haven't tried out any of these games — or who want a refresher — to check them out. While Resident Evil 4's remake isn't set to release until 2023, there's still more new Resident Evil on the horizon. Capcom also revealed that Resident Evil Village will be receiving fresh material in the near future, releasing a Winters Expansion that will add an additional story following Ethan Winters' daughter, which is played in third-person.
