PC giant Valve is reportedly putting a stop to Dota Workshop projects having monetisation options.
That's according to SteamDB's Pavel Djundik, who took to Twitter to post part of an email from the Steam giant's lawyers saying that as of August 17th, Dota Workshop devs should not have any way of making money in their projects.
"As you are aware, the license provided for the Dota Workshop tools is strictly non-commercial," the email said.
"We have to ask that you stop selling virtual items for your custom game immediately and report to us the scope of your monetisation, broken down by territory and payment method, by August 17th, 2023."
The Dota Workshop is a way for developers to create custom games from the Dota framework. This is where the Auto Chess boom started back in 2019 with Dota Auto Chess.
There's no indication why Valve has decided to pursue this strategy now inparticular.
