As likely as it is, the remake hasn’t even been officially announced. However, that hasn’t stopped reports contained alleged details about the rumored title. The newest report about the remake reveals some key information about it like its spookier tone, Ada’s campaign, and more.
Fanbyte‘s report from multiple sources states that Capcom is trying to make the remake scarier than the original. While that original has adrenaline-focused terror, it doesn’t utilize darkness and creeping horror nearly as much as its predecessors. Capcom is trying to change that by setting most of the game at night, shrouding once-visible levels in darkness. The report uses the iconic village scene as an example as that is one of the many sections that takes place well after the sun goes down in the remake. This direction is said to have come from early builds of the game, footage of which can be found on YouTube.
Ada’s sections are also being reworked. She previously had two of her own portions: and, which was only in ports after the GameCube release (but also wasn’t in the VR version). The former was a non-canon way to play as Ada in certain levels, while the latter had more story, even if fans don’t hold this bonus in the same regard as Leon’s campaign. The remake is reportedly going to address that by combining the two to make a “more fluid and polished companion piece.” However, it’s not clear how or if this will be DLC or not. Regardless, the sources said it will be a “meaty” expansion.
