From Software has reportedly confirmed that it will rekindle the Dark Souls franchise's servers.
The company took down the servers used by Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls 3 in January to address a vulnerability that could be exploited to enable remote code execution on target PCs.
That was roughly a month before Elden Ring—which the community speculated was also susceptible to this security flaw—debuted. So it wasn't necessarily surprising that From Software didn't have a patch in the month after the Dark Souls franchise's servers went dark.
Elden Ring was finally released in February, though, and the developer has stayed quiet about the status of these seemingly forgotten servers. Until now: PC Gamer reports(Opens in a new window) that From Software does in fact plan to bring Dark Souls' servers back online when the relevant patches are ready.
"We are currently in the process of restoring the online servers for the Dark Souls series on PC," the dev told PC Gamer. "We plan to restore online service for each game progressively, bringing back servers for Dark Souls 3 once we complete the necessary work to correct the problem."
So remain hopeful, Dark Souls fans, and don't you dare go hollow.
