As Reddit's Clubhouse clone, Reddit Talk, gains momentum, the site hopes to keep people listening with a handful of new features.
Introduced in April, Reddit Talk builds on a world of text, images, and videos by adding live audio like Q&As, lectures, sports radio-style discussions, community feedback sessions, and digital spaces where like-minded folks can hang out.
Now, boasting more than 250% growth in daily active listeners over the last three months, Reddit is rolling out fresh features to help boost engagement even more.
Whether you missed Chris Hadfield's space talk or want to replay a cryptocurrency presentation by Kevin O'Leary, Reddit is making it easier to catch up on past chats. Visit a Reddit Talk post to listen to a recording of the conversation, complete with playback bar; skip to any timestamp, pause, and fast-forward or rewind 10 seconds at a time.
A step up from its previously limited participation options (listeners could only raise a hand to join the stage), Reddit Talks now invites users to comment in real time via text and emojis. "Enabling comments and emojis makes Talks easier to engage with, even without speaking," according to a company blog announcement.
In an effort to make audio talks more accessible, the social network has begun testing a "live bar" at the top of Home feeds, highlighting in-progress Reddit Talks in the communities folks follow.
Web users can now listen to talks and raise their virtual hand to speak, while moderators have the power to mute and remove people while using Reddit.com. The ability to create talks on desktop is coming "later this month," the company said.
Those interested in hosting a Reddit Talk can sign up online.
