No Time to Die star Ralph Fiennes will appear alongside an all-star cast including Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow in an adaptation of Robert Harris' book Conclave. Originally published in 2016, Conclave is set entirely within the walls of The Vatican during the 72 hours that make up the titular meeting wherein the cardinals must choose a new pope. In the book, Cardinal Lomeli, dean of the College of Cardinals and the figure in charge of the Conclave, must preside over the assembly and juggle the ambitions of the papabile, before the arrival of a yet-unknown Cardinal throws a spanner in the works.
PerVariety,Fiennes will be taking on the role of Lomeli in the film adaptation, alongside Lithgow's Cardinal Tremblay and Tucci's Cardinal Bellini. Joining them will be Isabella Rossellini as Sister Agnes, with Edward Berger attached to direct. The script was written by British playwright Peter Straughan, who penned the 2011 adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and 2019's The Goldfinch.

With this much creative talent at the wheel and solid source material as inspiration, Conclave should prove to be an exciting thriller when it releases. Much of this will be due to the excellent cast, as Fiennes' turns in both No Time to Dieand The King's Man were incredible to watch, while Tucci and Lithgow remain constant popular favorites. Tucci's performance in 2020's Supernova proved to be one of his all-time best, and Lithgow is slated to appear in Scorsese's upcoming picture Flowers of the Killer Moon. So far, Conclave has no release date, but hopefully, more information is revealed soon.
