Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Mobile, a new game that brings the core gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege to mobile devices.
Rainbow Six Mobile looks and plays like its console counterpart; it’s a 5v5 attack and defend FPS with destructible environments and a variety of specialist gadgets. Attackers use drones, explosives, and various other offensive items to push their way into the defending team’s fortified positions.
While a huge amount of Rainbow Six Mobile appears to be a near enough straight adaptation of Rainbow Six Siege, there are some notable changes. Matches are shorter as R6 Mobile is a best-of-three-rounds affair, and the HUD has been adjusted to work for mobile. It also seems, at least at launch, that there will be a smaller pool of maps and operators to pick from. Confirmed so far are classic locations Bank and Border, while Ubisoft says “the most popular Rainbow Six operators” will be included.
Shown in the game’s key art are operators Caveira, Bandit, Smoke, Valkyrie, Mute, Ash, Sledge, Twitch, Thermite, and Hibana. Each operator will have the classic Siege loadout of a primary and secondary weapon, as well as a unique gadget and equipment such as bulletproof shields, breaching charges, and barbed wire. While it seems that each operator will be nearly identical to their console counterpart, it looks like many will sport a new look for Rainbow Six Mobile. Sledge, for instance, isn’t wearing his gas mask, and Ash’s breaching round launcher appears to be attached to her rifle.
Despite the shorter matches, the modes are what you’d expect from a game derived from Siege. Secure Area and Bomb will be present and correct. Ubisoft promises “several game modes” at launch, although details beyond the two classics
