An announcement trailer for the mobile game The Queen's Gambit: Chess was revealed during Netflix's Geeked Week 2022 event. The upcoming chess simulator is based on The Queen's Gambit, a period drama miniseries starring Anya Taylor-Joy which released back in 2020. Previous Netflix games for the service's mobile app have been based on shows and films like Stranger Things and Money Heist, and now The Queen's Gambit will receive its very own interactive tie-in.
A miniseries adaptation of Walter Tevis' novel of the same name, The Queen's Gambit starsAnya Taylor-Joy as protagonist Beth Harmon. A Kentucky-born orphan, Harmon is a skilled chess prodigy who also suffers from an addiction to tranquilizer pills utilized by her orphanage. Able to visualize a chess board in her mind, Harmon gradually conquers the world's most prestigious tournaments and develops multiple complex relationships. The miniseries was critically acclaimed upon release, due in large part to Taylor-Joy's performance, and soon the series will have a video game tie-in comparable to last year's Money Heist crossover with Free Fire.
