Sony has finally shown what the PS VR2 headset looks like, as they reveal that it and the PS5 console were both designed at the same time.
Although it was announced some time ago Sony has only now revealed what the PlayStation VR2 headset looks like, although it claims that the PlayStation 5 console and it were designed in tandem and to both reflect the same aesthetic.
Up until now the Sense controllers were the only hardware that had been shown in public but these new images reveal that they’ve had a major redesign since, to match the ‘orb’ look of the headset.
The headset design still seems quite similar to the original PlayStation VR though, which is no surprise as that was always the best headset on the market, in terms of both looks and comfort.
‘We already had a lot of positive feedback on the ergonomics of the first PS VR headset by carefully balancing the headset weight and having a simple headband that can be adjustable, so we kept the same concept for the PS VR2 headset’, said Sony’s Hideaki Nishino on the PlayStation Blog.
‘For the PS VR2 headset, we took comfort a few steps further by adding new features such as a lens adjustment dial, so users have an additional option to match the lens distance between their eyes to optimise their view. We also created a slimmer design with a slight weight reduction – even with the new added features such as the new built-in motor for the headset feedback’, he added.
The blog post is really only about how the headset looks, with senior art director Yujin Morisawa apparently very proud of the vent design, but while there are no new technical details it does seem as if Sony is slowly building up to a major showcase of the games and hardware – ahead of the all-important announcement
