More than 50 games look like they’re going to be removed from PS Now just a month ahead of the big PS Plus revamp in June.
Sony’s revamped PlayStation Plus service will see it absorb PlayStation Now, so rather than have it be a separate subscription it will instead be part of the new PlayStation Plus Premium tier, while continuing to offer retro games from older consoles.
Naturally, you would assume that the current PS Now library would transfer over as well. Except that may not be the case, as it’s claimed that many games currently available for PS Now will be removed in May.
The list is 56 games long and, strangely, seems to mostly consist of Konami and Sega published titles. This includes all four Metal Gear Solid games available on the service (Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Rising, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes) and multiple Sonic The Hedgehog games.
It’s currently unclear whether this is indicative of the new games library for PS Plus when it launches in June, if Sony intends on renewing them later, or if they will be replaced with different games.
Admittedly, games added to PS Now aren’t always permanent additions and some of the games listed are outdated, like WWE 2K19 and NBA 2K18. However, it seems like odd timing to remove well over 50 of them just a month before launching the revamped service. Especially when Sony hasn’t confirmed any of the retro games that will be included for the Premium tier.
So far, Sony has promised games from the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable. Although PlayStation 3 games won’t be available for download; you’ll need to stream them.
