Warning! Spoilers for Power Rangers Unlimited: The Death Ranger #1 by BOOM! Studios
The Power Rangers' Death Ranger is a massive win for non-binary representation in more ways than one, as the new character not only introduces an NB character to the franchise but one that is a villain. While comic books and pop culture have introduced some great non-binary heroes to the mix in recent years, making the Death Ranger a terrifying villain hopefully starts a trend of more NB characters getting a chance to be evil.
BOOM! Studios revealed a brand new one-shot titled Power Rangers Unlimited: The Death Ranger #1 by Paul Allor (GI Joe), and Kath Lobo, which will introduce the Death Ranger, a new, non-binary Ranger, to the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers universe. While Death Ranger's real name behind the mask hasn't been revealed, BOOM teased the character as an Omega Ranger who became corrupted in a Death Ranger. The character will be non-binary and use they/them pronouns, as does the entire alien race the character was born from. Having more representation in the Power Rangers is huge, but the fact the Death Ranger is a villain makes the character even more intriguing.
