Potentially Hazardous asteroid heading towards us! In this month’s edition of the Near-Earth object passing by us, NASA has shared details on a large asteroid that’s passing us a very close distance in early March. Asteroid 2001 CB21, which measures over 1.3 km in size, is coming very close to Earth on March 4 when its orbit almost matches that of Earth. The 2001 CB21 goes around the Sun at a very fast pace of 43,236 Kmph and has the potential to wipe us out of the solar system, if it ever hits Earth.
On March 4, the 2001 CB21 will come very close to Earth. At the time of the pass, the distance between the asteroid and Earth will measure only 49,11,298 kilometers. That’s a lot of distance to keep us safe from this rock for now. However, when 2011 CB21 pays us a visit again in March 2043, it will pass us at an even closer distance of 48,15,555 kilometers. NASA’s simulations, however, assure that this asteroid isn’t going to hit us at least in the next 100 years.
Since we are at no immediate danger from this asteroid, you can get on your computer to watch it go past us on March 4. The Virtual Telescope Project has already captured the asteroid floating in space and you can continue to track its progress as it hurtles down the solar system. You can watch it live on the WEBTV channel on the Virtual Telescope website.
Prior to this, the Asteroid 7482 paid us visit earlier in January 2022. That rock was bigger than the Burj Khalifa and passed us at a much closer distance of 1 million miles. NASA has, however, said that our planet is not in any immediate danger of getting hit by an asteroid. Hence, we are unlikely to die by an asteroid hit, similar to our din
In the event of an asteroid threat, NASA is preparing for the doomsday,
