A Pokémon Trading Card Game player went viral at the Pokémon Championships North America, after entering the tournament with only jumbo-sized TCG cards. In 2002, the Pokémon TCG saw the release of its first-ever jumbo card as a promotional item packed in with an issue of Top Deck Magazine. The rare collectible was an oversized version of the iconic Pokémon TCG Base Set Pikachu card. The Pokémon Company has since released many jumbo promo Pokémon cards over the last two decades. However, one fan took his love of the oversized TCG cards to the next level, after playing them at the Pokémon Championships North America tournament.
Following the departure of Wizards of the Coast, The Pokémon Company International started hosting the Pokémon World Championships in 2004. The yearly tournament brings together the best Pokémon players around the world to compete in the series' various games such as the Pokémon GO, TCG, Pokkén Tournament, Pokémon VGC and 2021's Nintendo MOBA Pokémon Unite. A Pokémon card player attending the Pokémon Championships North America contest in June 2022, made waves in the community after hilariously entering the TCG portion of the tournament with a deck only containing jumbo cards.

Gaming journalist Joshua Yehl reported on the viral tournament moment on Twitter and posted a picture of Pokémon Championships player Matthew Verive using his jumbo Pokémon card deck. At first, the tournament organizers were unsure if they were going to let the jumbo deck be played, but eventually decided to allow the match to continue. Because the TCG never created jumbo Energy cards, Verive wasn't actually able to attack with his oversized Pokémon. According
