The Pokémon Trading Card Game's Lost Origin set will have a handful of rare prerelease promo cards that TCG players will be able to collect. Following the release of Astral Radiance in May, the Pokémon Lost Originexpansion accidentally appeared early on the official Pokémon Center store. The Pokémon Company confirmed the rumored TCG set a few weeks later and revealed that the new expansion will launch with several promo prerelease cards leading up to its debut in September.
In 1999, Wizards of the Coast created the first official Pokémon TCG prerelease cards as a part of the launch of the Pokémon League. Players who attended special Jungle tournaments had a chance to score a promo Clefable card with a special stamp. The Pokémon Company continued this tradition after taking over the license for the TCG, and every expansion since has had the specially marked Pokémon cards.

Due to the pandemic pausing Pokémon League events, many Pokémon Sword and Shield TCG sets'prerelease cards were packaged in with Build & Battle Boxes as well as Battle Stadium TCG products. That trend is continuing with Lost Origin, which will launch with a group of rare SWSH Black Star Promo cards on Friday, September 9.
