The Pokemon franchise has gone many years and many iterations without significantly changing the formula that made it such an immediate success. Pokemon Legends: Arceus marks what could be the largest deviation from that formula yet, with the production values of a main series Pokemon title. A shift into 3D and gameplay changes to accentuate that aren't the only changes that The Pokemon Company has made in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, however. For example, one major feature change to how Pokemon moves work is being very well received.
Since the first Pokemon games, players have had to use a very restrictive system that forced each Pokemon to forget any move that wasn't immediately put into their set of four active options. Pokemon Legends: Arceus makes a major shift away from this system. Now, players are able to access a full selection of Pokemon moves from the menu, where they can swap moves in and out for the Pokemon with extreme ease.

Swapping moves like this does not delete them, either. The Pokemon will remember their unlocked moves forever, so they can be swapped back in at a later time. Pokemon will still have the limitation of just four active moves that can be used at a time, though. Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will have to carefully select which moves to take into battle, adding a new level of strategy to the game that previous Pokemon titles didn't.
While the change does, at first glance, seem like a great decision by Game Freak and The Pokemon Company, it does change the game in a way that some may not be happy with.
