Despite the continuation of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Niantic's mobile game Pokemon GO has largely been able to weather the storm thanks to some timely updates and changes to the experience. While the game pushes players to get out explore, and meet new people, changes to catch radius and bonuses helped players to continue to play and be safe for a time. Although many of these changes have since reverted, Niantic has been able to bring back a popular social event called Pokemon GO Fest.

The previous couple of events were canceled and made purely digital, this year has seen the physical events make a comeback.
