InPokemon Legends: Arceus, one bit of dialogue potentially explains something interesting about the various Pikachu clones. Just about every region adds a new version of this Pokemon species, and it seems Arceus suggests that they all evolved from a singular, ancient Pokemon. This idea of ancient and perhaps event future pokemon is important, going into Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's time-travel themes, but it also has a lot of implications for the various species of Pokemon.
One fan known as alex_fantastico on Reddit, otherwise known as Zokai, has essentially taken this concept and run with it. Thus far, they've created charts tracing Pokemon ancestry back to an imagined, singular creature with various traits for Dog Pokemon, Penguin Pokemon, Fox Pokemon, and so on. Their latest chart is now looking at the potential ancestry of duck Pokemon.

The Redditor imagines the oldest ancestor to be named Wildbill, a Pokemon with a body type closer to Ducklett but with the color of a Farfetch'd. From there, Wildbill changes into one of three ancestor Pokemon: Ruduckiless (a Yellow version of Wildbill and play on the word ridiculous), Nearfetch'd (which moves closer to Farfetch'd minus the leak), and Wiblet which features minor changes more aligning with Ducklett.
From there, Ruduckiless will eventually involve into the gen 1 Pokemon Psyduck. The naming scheme here is top-notch, as it goes from Ruduckiless to Watheduck to Ohduck to Whyduck to Psyduck. Its body expands and loses the fur throughout the various evolution stages. Meanwhile, Nearfetch'd picks up a leak and becomes Ancient Farfetch'd, which is essential identical to Farfetch'd.
