The Pokemon anime is preparing to undergo its biggest change ever as Ash and Pikachu will say goodbye and make way for a new protagonist, Liko. Liko will be joined by Roy, someone we still know very little about. However, Pokemon has revealed new details regarding where Roy is from and a new item he'll bring to the table.
Shared by Pokemon Japan's Twitter account (thanks, Serebii), the biggest takeaway is that Roy is from Kanto, the first region trainers were able to explore, and the part of the growing Pokemon world Ash hails from. It has already been confirmed that the new series will focus on Paldea for the first time as Scarlet & Violet's starters – Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxley – have been shown in promotional material.

That presumably means Roy has travelled from Kanto to Paldea, and may also mean he has some sort of connection to Ash and Pikachu. Not that everyone who calls Kanto home has to know each other, of course. There's still a theory the anime will experience a time jump between the end of Ash's story and the start of Liko's and that the new hero is the old one's daughter. However, perhaps Roy will be the one with a familial link to the departing Pokemon Champion.
Also revealed was an image of a mysterious new Pokeball Roy has in his possession. The Pokemon series has come a long way since trainers only had regular red and white Pokeballs to catch their 'mons. There's now a long list of balls, all of which have different properties.
