Sifu is an upcoming third-person action game for PC and PlayStation consoles that hopes to be one of the biggest surprises of early 2022. The game is said to feature over 150 unique attacks directly inspired from the Pak Mei kung fu style, pulling directly from real-life martial arts to create a more visceral action experience. To showcase what Sifu players will experience in-game, developer Sloclap partnered with director Christopher Clark Cowan for a live-action Sifu film.
The 9-minute Sifu short film offers a glimpse of what players can expect when Sifu arrives on February 8. The film follows Sifu's protagonist as they hunt down a man named Fajar who killed their father. The focus of the short film, however, is on its martial arts action sequences. There's a brief initial fight with two men to start the film, an extended sequence against a group of men, and then a final fight against a strong opponent wielding a makeshift sword.

While the martial arts are a focus of the Sifu film, it also manages to tie in the game's biggest mechanic. When players take on fatal damage in Sifu, when they die, they «reset.» It's like an extra life, only when they come back the protagonist is multiple years older. It's like they spent those years training to be a better fighter. The movie shows this by the protagonist going to a white room of sorts, where they practice defending against the move that killed them.
The movie ends shortly after displaying Sifu's resurrection mechanic, choosing to focus on the extent that the protagonist will go to claim vengeance rather than showcasing the vengeance itself. As such, viewers will have to try the game for themselves to see the full story. It's a
