Google has done a terrible job keeping its Pixel 7a under wraps because one YouTuber has got their hands on the latest mid-ranger. What is even more impressive is that he posted an entire teardown video of this model. There are some interesting aspects of the handset, with a few of them definitely pleasing the ‘right to repair’ advocates, so let us discuss them here.
The disassembly video was made by PBKreviews, making it one of the fastest uploads we have seen from the YouTube channel. The individual states that the Pixel 7a is fairly easy to take apart and can be torn down from both sides, depending on which component you want to remove first. If a screen replacement needs to be done, the entire process can start from the front, or if you want to take out the battery, you can begin from the back too.
As we move closer to the end of the video, we see that the Pixel 7a features a wireless charging coil and a graphite film to help dissipate heat effectively. The battery cable is also easily removable, and you are given access to the cell after a few seconds. Also, there is a visible pull tab to help pry the battery, though the video shows that it did take some effort to remove the unit. For those wondering, the Pixel 7a features a 4,300mAh capacity, but the backside shows a 4,344mAh label for some reason.
Google’s suppliers also added a boatload of copper pads on several components to help transfer heat, which is the right decision, because we suspect that various parts, including the Tensor G2, will heat up when tackling a small load. Unfortunately, the USB-C charging port is soldered to the logic board, so you have to order an entirely new part if something goes wrong, which we do not like.
Overall, it is easy to get inside
