HBO Max has dropped the full-length trailer for the high seas pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death. Created by the multi-hyphenate writer-director-producer Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder, Jojo Rabbit) and David Jenkins, Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the voyages and misadventures of Stede Bonnet, aka the «Gentleman Pirate,» who abandoned his aristocratic, affluent lifestyle during the 18th century to become a pirate. Our Flag Means Death was ordered to series at HBO Max in September 2020, and now it's finally ready to arrive on the Warner Media-backed streamer.
While the series' concept alone is quite impressive, Our Flag Means Death is also being increasingly hyped for its talented cast. Flight of the Conchords star Rhys Darby is playing Bonnet, while Waititi will be seen as the infamous pirate Blackbeard. Also headlining the main cast are Ewen Bremner as Buttons, David Fane as Fang, Joel Fry as Frenchie, Guz Khan as Ivan, Matthew Maher as Black Pete, Rory Kinnear as Captain Nigel Badminton and Chauncey Badminton, Con O'Neill as Izzy, and Kristian Nairn as Wee John Feeney. The show also boasts an impressive roster of recurring guests, including SNL's Leslie Jones, The Conners' Nat Faxon, and Moonbase 8's Fred Armisen. Now, enthusiastic viewers can catch a preview of the ensemble's take on the legendary pirates.
