Now that all six episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are out on Disney+, it's clear the series would have been much better as a movie as originally planned. Disney+ has seen a lot of success with its shows like Star Wars and Marvel shows, and while Obi-Wan Kenobi reportedly earned the platform big streaming numbers, the decision to make it a series instead of a movie was a big missed opportunity.
After years of teases from Ewan McGregor, it wasinitially reported Obi-Wan Kenobi would be produced as a movie, directed by Stephen Daldry, but as Disney and Lucasfilm abandoned their big-screen plans and turned their attention to Disney+, the decision was made to re-engineer Obi-Wan Kenobi as a limited series. Streaming content is a hot ticket item, and a number of big IP shows have proven the potential for big sci-fi and fantasy stories being told on the small screen, but that didn't end up being the case with Obi-Wan Kenobi.

With the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen and big battles teased between Vader and Obi-Wan, the show certainly had potential, but the constraints of an episodic streaming show ultimately prevented it from being as good as a movie version could have been. The basic plot of Obi-Wan being called off Tatooine to save Leia, meeting a group protecting fugitive Jedi, getting hunted down by the Empire, and Obi-Wan confronting Vader so the rebels could escape works as a traditional movie structure, but the process of expanding to six episodes often resulted in characters having nothing to do or repeating the same arcs each episode.
