Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars #25
In Star Wars' new landmark issue, it's revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi once invented an epic new weapon that would have surpassed the standard lightsaber. Instructing his padawan Anakin Skywalker in this new issue, Obi-Wan reveals the Jedi's purpose behind their use of lightsabers and why they all wield the same weapon. However, this was a lesson he had to learn himself after creating a far deadlier set of lightsabers when he was apprenticed to Qui-Gon Jinn.
Coming from writer Charles Soule and an all-star team of artists Soule has worked with before on prior series set in the galaxy far, far away, the new Star Wars #25 marks the 100th script Soule's written for Lucasfilm across comics and novels. As such, this new issue features 4 short stories consisting of tales that would have easily fit into Soule's past series such as Obi-Wan & Anakin, Darth Vader (2017), The Rise of Kylo Ren, and Poe Dameron.

In Star Wars #25's first story entitled «The Lesson» with artist Ramon Rosanas, Obi-Wan and Anakin are seen sparring at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Taking place before the events of Attack of the Clones, Anakin still has much to learn from his new master. As such, he questions the Jedi's use of lightsabers, believing that he could easily create a blaster powered by kyber crystals rather than a blade. This provides Kenobi the opportunity to teach while also revealing that he once felt the same way, having designed a truly impressive lightsaber version of kyoketsu-shoge in his youth under the tutelage of Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
