Warning: Spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1.
Based on Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1, Star Wars seems to be making Tatooine’s history as an ocean-covered planet canon. Despite being in the Outer Rim territories, Tatooine has been one of the most important locations in Star Wars. The desert planet was the birthplace of Anakin Skywalker and the homeworld of Luke Skywalker. In addition, Tatooine was a center for criminal activity, attracting characters like Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo, Boba Fett, and Din Djarin. Although Obi-Wan briefly appeared in Star Wars Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi is giving viewers their first live-action look into Obi-Wan’s activities during that time.

This eventually converted Tatooine from a jungle to its familiar desert climate. When Disney bought Lucasfilm though, the Star Wars EU was determined to no longer be canon.
