Nvidia Adds Automatic Game Mode, Night Listening Option to Shield TV
Nvidia just updated its Shield TV media streaming devices with a couple of new modes that every owner will appreciate.
Shield Experience Upgrade v9.1(Opens in a new window) (33.2.0.125) introduces an Automatic Game Mode and a Night Listening Mode. The new game mode allows the Shield TV to automatically switch your TV to its low-latency mode if one exists. It doesn't matter whether you're using GeForce Now or some other cloud gaming service, the automatic switching should work and offer a better gaming experience without any effort on your part.
The Night Listening Mode will be welcomed by anyone who wants to sleep while you watch TV late into the night. When enabled, it will automatically adjust HDMI audio levels for the content being played so as not to disturb anyone. That means the sound of explosions will be toned down, while quiet dialog will be turned up so it remains clear.
Both the Shield TV and Shield TV Pro also receive the latest (April 2022) Android security patch, attached storage transfer speeds have been improved, and there's now a notification if an app is using the microphone. For the Shield Pro 2019 specifically, AI upscaling support has been added for 60Hz HDR10 video output. There's also a bunch of bug fixes(Opens in a new window) for the Shield TV app, audio, storage, network connectivity, and accessories.
Nvidia used the update to highlight the new games available via GeForce Now, which include Apex Legends: S13, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, Dying Light 2, Rainbow Six Extraction, SIFU, and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Disney+ also got upgraded with IMAX enhanced viewing including a 1.90:1 expanded aspect ratio.
