A Nothing Phone? It seems to be happening and that too, SOON! Founder Carl Pei took to Twitter and made some cryptic tweets, hinting at Nothing’s first smartphone. Eventually, the official Twitter handles of Android and Snapdragon also joined in on the conversation, giving out a lot of hints for this next smartphone from Nothing. Based on all the cryptic tweets, it seems that Nothing is working on a high-end Android phone relying on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform.
Sadly, neither Nothing nor Carl reveal anything else on this mysterious device. Based on their last year’s revelations, Nothing has plans to reveal five new products in 2022, chief among which will be the company’s first smartphone. Given that its first product, the Nothing ear (1), was an affordable product in the audio gear segment, we expect the Nothing phone to inherit the same properties. What if the Nothing Phone 1 (speculated name) could start its journey the same way OnePlus did back in 2014?
Late last year, a leaked report suggested that Nothing could be launching its first smartphone in early 2022, alongside a new Nothing branded power bank. Note that Nothing had purchased Andy Rubin’s Essential company last February. Hence, its first smartphone could be one that stands out the most, considering the Essential Phone 1 grabbed a lot of attention back in 2017.
It remains to be seen what path does Nothing take for its first smartphone. Will the company settle for a midrange smartphone packed with high-end features and a clean build of Android? Or, will Nothing’s first phone will be more akin to the OnePlus One, complete with top-end specifications and a customised user experience, putting everything else on the backseat?
