Aaron Taylor-Johnson teases his Kraven the Hunter physical transformation and the stunt training he is undergoing for the superhero movie. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Kraven made his comic book debut in 1964's The Amazing Spider-Man No. 15 as a villain to the Marvel webslinger and has since served as one of his rogues' gallery of antagonists, including being one of the founding members of the Sinister Six. However, Kraven's dedication to honor and the thrill of the hunt have seen him occasionally appear as an antihero in the comics, including being an ally to Squirrel Girl and Spider-Man, the latter of whom he respects for how often he defeats him.
Multiple efforts have been made over the years to bring Kraven the Hunter to the big screen, with Marc Webb including a tease in the end credits for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to set up his future in the threequel and Sinister Six film that were later scrapped. Black Panther co-writer/director Ryan Coogler had also originally planned to use the villain in his Marvel Cinematic Universe installment while Jon Watts had Kraven set as a backup plan for Spider-Man: No Way Home should the studio not approve of the multiverse concept. With Sony building their own shared universe of comic book films with Sony's Spider-Man Universe, a Kraven the Hunter movie was announced in 2018, though wouldn't gain steam until 2020 when Triple Frontier's J.C. Chandor was tapped to direct and Aaron Taylor-Johnson signing on to star the following May.
