Six years on from the initial release of No Man's Sky, the game has so much more additional content to offer than when it first landed. This progress has been brought about by a series of game-changing updates and expansions that have fundamentally changed the gameplay loop in No Man’s Sky. The most recent one provided by Hello Games is the Sentinel Update, currently available on PS4, PS5, and PS VR.

Many new features arrive with the Sentinel Update, from an entirely new combat model to lore explaining the many cybernetic creatures found in No Man’s Sky’s universe. Indeed, one of the most intriguing new features is the ability to gain a new AI companion for your journey across the endless expanse of space.
There are two new types of companion in the Sentinel update. The first is a small, and rather adorable, floating AI drone. When you install the new update and return to your settlement, if you have one, you will receive a quest titled “A Trace of Metal.”
This quest sees your settlement face a deadly attack from a group of robotic enemies. Once these enemies have been defeated, be sure to scour the battlefield and loot their bodies. One Sentinel will be holding the Undamaged Drone Shell item, a key part in obtaining your companion. Following this, you will receive a call from Tethys who will fill you in on some of the lore regarding this new update and request that you come and look at some things he wants to show you.
