You can play Destiny 2 on lots of devices. It’s available on Xbox, PlayStation, Google Stadia, and Steam. You’d think that Steam would also include the new Steam Deck, which begins shipping this month, but you’d be incorrect.
Bungie recently updated its help files regarding Destiny 2’s ability to play on Steam. A brand-new section specifically outlines Destiny 2’s compatibility with the Steam Deck, which is to say it's not compatible at all. Furthermore, trying to bypass that incompatibility will get your Destiny 2 account banned.

"Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running,” reads the help file. “Players who attempt to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck through SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and will be returned to their game library after a short time.
“Players who attempt to bypass Destiny 2 incompatibility will be met with a game ban.”
We’ve known for a while that the Steam Deck would be incompatible with certain online games due to the anti-cheat software used. Destiny 2 uses BattlEye, which is an unsupported anti-cheat due to the Deck running on a modified version of Linux.
Theoretically, you could install Windows on the Deck and then play Destiny 2 that way, but so far nobody has owned a Deck long enough to see what happens when you try to install Windows on a Deck. It might be easier to just wait for others to do some testing before you try to dive into the new Witch Queen expansion via Steam’s handheld PC.
