No Man’s Sky seems to run pretty well on the Switch, according to fans who’ve started their journeys on Nintendo’s mobile console. However, while the Switch port has been largely praised, No Man’s Sky’s 4.0 update that came along with it is being met with mixed reviews.
Nobody is complaining about the new difficult options, the QOL updates, or the visual improvements that continue to make No Man’s Sky an absolutely stunning experience. What has fans up in arms are the inventory changes that some players are calling a back-door nerf.

Although the inventory revamp massively increased a player’s carrying capacity, it reduced their overall capacity for technology upgrades. Prior to update 4.0, players could carry a maximum of three tech upgrades in both their technology inventory as well as their general inventory. After 4.0, the general inventory was removed in favor of more technology and cargo inventory space, but this meant that players couldn’t double up on tech upgrades in their general inventory.
The net result are players that are a bit weaker than they used to be. With a full batch of six-plus shield tech upgrades, players could become nearly invincible, and the right combination of weapon upgrades would allow them to blast pirates with impunity. That’s no longer the case with 4.0, and even though there are more than enough difficult options to allow players to retain that sense of invincibility without those tech upgrades, there are a lot of unhappy Travelers. Some fans are calling for the inventory system to be reverted to what it was before update 4.0.
